This list was set up in efforts to promote alumni commnuication and
    also communication between active chapters around the world.  Our goal
    is to have as many members of Sigma Alpha Mu and affiliates join to
    ensure the best atainable "spirit of fraternity" possible.  As stated
    in our creed (below), this should prove to be an informative and
    powerful tool if used correctly.  It all depends on it's participants
    so get involved.

    Our mailing lists will not be sold, rented, or otherwise made
    available to any other party without your permission, and in fact
    at this time we have no plans to do so at all.


WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR MAILBOX

    E-mail from other members of Sigma Alpha Mu across the country and around 
    the world.  We do not limit membership of this listserv to those of the 
    Active Sammy's but rather invite all to join our active conversations.
    
    That's it. Our goal throughout is not to clutter up your mailbox
    with noisy and irrelevant material. All of us Sammy's get tons of e-mail 
    and we know how it feels to deal with it. We therefore will consciously 
    try to keep our presence in your mailbox on the level of about 10 readable 
    items per week.  This could increase as popularity increases.



BOUNCED MAIL AND OTHER PROBLEMS

We've been doing this long enough to know that there are a number
of problems which crop up over and over again either due to
factors beyond our control or due to our dizzy growth rate. Most
businesses wouldn't tell you about them, but we will, since we
figure you are smart enough to understand what's going on.

    o On any given mass mailing we get between 5%-10% bounced E-mail.
      This means our software tried to deliver to your address but
      could not. Some of the reasons we've seen why this happens:
    
      - Your machine or mailing software was down when mail delivery
        was attempted;
      - Your file system was full;
      - Your address changed;
      - A machine between yours and ours in the chain of mail
        delivery failed, or was down;
      - Our mailing software acted up for unknown reasons; or
      - A conspiracy involving aliens, Elvis, and the Trilateral
        Commission wanted to prevent _you_ from learning the truth.
    
      If all else fails you can always stop at our WWW or FTP site to
      see the archive:

    o Our WWW site is in a continual state of evolution and
      occasionally need to be taken down for updates or maintenance.

    o Link problems on a small minority of the links in our HTML
      version. While we make every effort to verify that the links
      work, we frequently report on very new sites which tend to move
      in their early days.

    o Send the command HELP or HELP TOPICS to receive further info.
