The Turkey Trot is a 2.6 mile foot race that begins in front of Packard Chapel and climbs a grueling 1.3 miles up South Mountain ending in a 1.3 mile decent to a lawn near Linderman Library. Due to an overwhelming response this year there will be 2 LTS teams competing; the LTS Mountain Goats and the LTS Mountain Lions. This is the 8th consecutive year LTS has participated in the Turkey Trot and is currently undefeated in the faculty/staff division. There are 7 members on the LTS Mountain Goats team this year consisting of: Bruce Taggart (Vice Provost for LTS), Frank Roth (University Legal Counsel), Greg Reihman (Director of Faculty Development), Gale Fritsche (Client Services Team Leader), Rob Weidman (Digital Library Technology Coord.), Bruce Eisenhard (Senior Computing Consultant), and Glenn Piper (Computing Assistant, Help Desk). There are 8 members of the LTS Mountain Lions consisting of: Nick Zoller (TA Math Dept.), Stacey Kimmel (Team Leader Student and Gen. Services), David Myers (Faculty, Business and Econ.), Gene Lucadamo (Industrial Liaison, Center for Optical Tech.), Steve Sakasitz (Computing Assistant, Help Desk), Brian Simboli (Science Librarian), Laura Eppler (Director of Marketing, Ben Franklin), and Ken Kodama (Faculty, EES). If you would like to witness the Mountain Goats take on the Mountain Lions, mark your calendar and don't miss the race. The Turkey Trot begins at 4:30 pm, Thursday, November 17th in front of Packard Chapel. *SFX UPGRADE!* Last month, Library and Technology Services upgraded Lehigh SFX Links, one of its most popular services for electronic library resources. Lehigh SFX Links connects users quickly from a bibliographic reference to the actual item, often in electronic full-text. It also provides links to other services, such as ILLiad, the Library's electronic interlibrary loan service for requesting documents from other libraries. This upgrade included a new tabbed menu, highlighting the most frequently used services for obtaining an item, while still providing access to other valuable services through a secondary "More Options" tab. Look for the Lehigh SFX Links logo in your favorite bibliographic database (First Search databases, ProQuest, ABInform, etc.) or directly input a citation using the Citation Linker, available from the Electronic Journals page at http://www.lehigh.edu/library/ejournals/ejournals.html *GET YOUR LEHIGH ID NUMBER VIA THE PORTAL* As faculty and staff make the transition to using the new, more secure Lehigh ID number (no longer the social security number) remember that the Lehigh ID number can be viewed in Banner through the campus portal: 1. Go to portal.lehigh.edu and log in. 2. Go to the Banner tab. 3. Select Personal Information. 4. Select What's My ID Number? The Lehigh ID number can also be viewed by logging into Banner directly. *MORNING CALL ONLINE AVAILABILITY* Faculty, staff, and students can search the full text of the Morning Call from 1996 to the present. The Morning Call is now available from a new database, "America's Newspapers" (formerly it had been available from the ProQuest database). To search the Morning Call: 1. Open a Web browser and go to www.lehigh.edu/library/ . <http://www.lehigh.edu/library/> 2. Under the Electronic Resources heading, choose Databases. 3. Go to Morning Call and select the on campus or off campus button. If you choose off campus, you'll be prompted for your username and password. Hints for searching the Morning Call: --Use quotes to search for phrases (e.g., "lehigh football") --Use the pulldown menu to the right of the text box to limit the search to byline, headline, or another field. --Boolean searching (AND, OR, NOT) can also be specified via a pulldown menu. ----Follow instructions to specify a date or range of dates. *Cool Carpool Channel on the Portal* LTS has developed a new channel on the Employee Tab of the Campus portal (http://portal.lehigh.edu/) to assist staff and faculty who'd like to carpool to conserve gas and save. Through the Carpool channel, you can place yourself on a map of potential carpoolers, filter the map by town, and see others from your area that would like to carpool.
