It is located on the south (Packer Avenue) side of the Library and has its own entrance from the breezeway. The Studio replaces and enhances the Media Production facility formerly housed in Linderman Library, and includes a 15 seat training facility for faculty and students; a professional video, photography, and VR studio; and state-of-the art editing software for production of audio and video material. It will also have extended hours during the semester. The IMRC Reconfiguration The International Multimedia Resource Center (IMRC) in Maginnes 473 is currently being reconfigured to offer more collaborative workspaces for students. Transfer of IMRC Videos and DVDs to the Media Center The videos and DVDs in the IMRC have been transferred to the Media Center/TRLC where the combined collection, in excess of 5,000 items, will be available from one location and entered in ASA, the library online catalog. They are available for viewing in the TRLC or for short-term loan, and reserve viewing will be supported in both the Media Center and the IMRC. Users are advised to search for videos in ASA or at http://www.lehigh.edu/library/collections/media.html, then seek retrieval assistance at the Media Center (83059). *PC SOFTWARE CHANGES* Adobe Adobe Acrobat Professional version 7.0 is now available via the LTS Install Software page. This new version of the software offers improved features and functionality over the previous version available on campus. Users can organize comments from reviewers, protect their pdf documents with passwords and even manage specialized content from Microsoft Office. The difficulty users have experienced with license contention related to the tight integration of the Reader with previous Acrobat versions appears to be solved with the 7.0 version. Labview The recent purchase of a Labview campus teaching license makes this popular software available campus-wide. This teaching license allows for use of the software in class and with course-related assignments. *ACCESSING YOUR H: AND I: DRIVES FROM OFF-CAMPUS* Library and Technology Services recently made available access to your H: and I: drives from off-campus (for Windows XP only) using VPN (Virtual Private Network). Instructions for using VPN and accessing your drives is available at http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/comp/docs/VPN/ *Greylisting reduces SPAM substantially for Lehigh Users* Lehigh email users are getting less SPAM, thanks to a change made to our campus mail server called greylisting. Library and Technology Services implemented greylisting this summer, and in initial testing greylisting reduced the level of SPAM (and even email viruses) by approximately 75%. Greylisting description and FAQ: http://www.lehigh.edu/helpdesk/greylist.html *LINDERMAN LIBRARY RENOVATION UPDATE* The renovation of Linderman Library began in June 2005 after all books were moved out of the building. This summer scaffolding enclosed much of the building for re-pointing of the masonry walls and for general repairs to make sure the building is water tight. New underground electrical power and steam utilities are being trenched to Linderman. Inside the "box" surrounding the defunct airshaft and part of the 1920s ceiling is being removed to allow for a better view of the skylight and access to new study rooms. The large ramps for book carts are being removed and will be replaced with small lifts. The rotunda basement floor has been lowered to eliminate some level changes. For more details and pictures of the on-going activity, see http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/linderman/construction.html *REQUESTING LINDERMAN MATERIALS DURING THE RENOVATION* Most of the Linderman Library collection has been moved offsite during the building renovation. Items with Linderman locations in the ASA catalog are housed at the Library Materials Center (LMC) and other remote storage sites. Users with Lehigh IDs may place requests through this form: http://www.lehigh.edu/library/storage-request . Requested material is retrieved on a 24-hour notice weekday delivery. Some materials do not circulate and must be used in-house or in Special Collections. You will be notified if that is the case. Otherwise, you will receive an email notice when your item is available for checkout or pickup at the Circulation Desk. The Linderman Library Renovation website has been updated since the move. The site, http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/linderman/faculty.html, includes revised information for faculty preparing for fall courses and research projects. The "With Linderman Closed, How Will I..." FAQ contains up-to-the-moment, complete info on services for humanities scholars and students (http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/linderman/faq.html). *LIBRARY HOURS INCLUDING NEW opening time* August 29 through September 11 Mondays - Thursdays open 7:30 am to midnight Fridays open 7:30 am to 10 pm Saturdays open 10 am to 10 pm Sundays open 10 am to midnight Regular Semester Hours Begin September 12 Mondays - Thursdays open 7:30 am to 2 am Fridays open 7:30 am to 10 pm Saturdays open 10 am to 10 pm Sundays open 10 am to 2 am Linderman Library is closed for renovation. ****************************************************************** Send your comments or suggestions for future topics by replying directly to the list.
