The sites in Fairchild Computing Center, Linderman Library and elsewhere on campus will be available as usual. Watch for full details in a system-wide bulletin. *Media Production Summer '05 Closing* On or about May 11th Media Production (Room 10 Linderman) will close in anticipation of the Linderman renovation, and the production area's permanent move to the breezeway level of the Mart Wing of Fairchild Library. No production services will be available for the month of June. Although some services will gradually be re-established throughout the summer, it is likely that many production services will be unavailable or severely limited. The computer graphics lab will be closed for the entire summer, with scanning and color printing available in the Media Center (EWFM 8A 370). In mid-August there will be a grand reopening of the new (and renamed) Digital Media Studio, with updated video and digital photo studio spaces, and a new computer lab emphasizing video editing and other digital media resources. Please contact Elia Schoomer (83058) for information about service availability, scheduling, alternative service providers, etc. *Three LTS Teams Depart Linderman March 29th* In advance of the Linderman renovation, the Library Technical Services Team, the Digital Library Team, and the Academic and Administration Department Client Services Team will move out of Linderman Library to the Fairchild Library and Computing Center on Tuesday, March 29th. The Library Technical Services Team and Library Access Services Director Sharon Wiles Young will relocate mainly on the top two floors of the Mart Wing of the Library. The Digital Library Team and the Academic and Administration Client Services Team will relocate to the 2nd floor of the Computing Center. New room numbers can be found on the Library and Technology Services (LTS) staff directory under the Staff/Contacts section on the left margin of the (LTS) web page at www.lehigh.edu/lts <http://www.lehigh.edu/lts> . Telephone numbers remain the same. *Entire Linderman Collection to Move* In early March plans were finalized to move the entire Linderman Library book collection out of the building and into remote sites during the renovation. This will improve the conditions under which the collection is housed, ensure reliable delivery of requested items, and eliminate time-consuming internal book moves during the renovation. As originally planned, all humanities new books, returned books, current periodicals, and a "core collection" will be housed in Fairchild Library. Tentative plans for distribution of the collection during the renovation are for the 700s and 800s (fine arts and English literature) to be relocated to the newly built 2nd floor of the Library Materials Center at Building J on the Mountaintop campus. The bound journals and remaining monographs are tentatively slated to be moved to facilities rented from Lafayette College. Other commercial spaces will be used for some materials and, finally, some music books will be moved temporarily to the Music Library in Zoellner. *LTS CONNECTION ONLINE INDEX AVAILABLE* An online index to the nine years of LTS Connection is now available at www.lehigh.edu/lts/connect <http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/connect> . The newsletter, now in its 9th year, is searchable by issue, article, subject, and keywords in article titles. *INFORMATION LITERACY WEBSITE* LTS has created the new Navigating Information at Lehigh University website <http://www.lehigh.edu/library/infolit/> as a vehicle for exploring approaches to developing an information literacy program at Lehigh. The website integrates areas for both students and faculty. The student section provides tools and tutorials on specific information and research skills. The faculty area gives background on the information literacy movement in higher education, definitions of information literacy competencies, background on the assessment of first year student skills and focuses on practical methods for designing assignments that promote desired research competencies. *MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD MAIL CLIENT* In addition to the Mozilla Suite (browser and email), Lehigh supports Mozilla Thunderbird, a separate, PC based mail client. It works similarly to Mozilla Mail, but does not include the web browser component, and so can be combined with a web browser of your choice. For instructions on downloading, installing and configuring Thunderbird, see http://www.lehigh.edu/helpdesk/docs/thunderbird/index.html For information on using Thunderbird, see "Customizing and Using Thunderbird" at http://www.lehigh.edu/computing/docs/thunderbird/thunderbirdmail.html *Changing your password: Stored passwords* Every six months, Lehigh staff and students must change their password. After the password is successfully changed, most users can just start logging in with the new password, but there is an exception. Some users configure their email and Windows dialup software to store or "remember" their passwords. For more information about changing stored passwords visit http://www.lehigh.edu/~inlts/help/Digest/autostored.htm <http://www.lehigh.edu/%7Einlts/help/Digest/autostored.htm> *New Telephone Conference Feature Available* LTS is pleased to announce a new feature called Meet-Me-Conference. This feature allows up to 12 people (on or off campus) to dial into one telephone number with no need to use a conference button. All parties simply dial into one number and they are all joined in conference. There will be a nominal fee per conference and this service can be used at night and on weekends as well. If you are interested in testing this feature please call Monica Weber at ext. 85002. Additional information about the service and how to reserve a conference number, can be found at our web site which is http://www.lehigh.edu/phones/phones.html *IS YOUR LAPTOP OVERHEATING?* Library and Technology Services has seen an increasing number of laptops requiring service because of airflow and overheating issues. PC components can generate significant amounts of heat, and it is wise to take simple maintenance steps to prevent failures due to overheating. Read more about this problem at http://www.lehigh.edu/~inlts/help/Digest/laptopoverheat.htm <http://www.lehigh.edu/%7Einlts/help/Digest/laptopoverheat.htm> ****************************************************************** Send your comments or suggestions for future topics by replying directly to the list.
