*LINDERMAN LIBRARY CLOSED OCTOBER 15TH*
The Linderman Library will be closed all day on Friday, October 15th for
a university event. It will reopen as usual at 10 am on Saturday,
October 16th. If you need to make special advance arrangements for some
specific materials, please contact Gail Kriebel at the Fairchild
Martindale Library (gpk0, x83028). The Linderman Reading Room will also
be closed during the day on October 14th but the remainder of the
building will be open.

*LINDERMAN PROJECT FAQ*
Many details about the Linderman Project are available on the project
web site at http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/linderman/faq.html . Most recently
the Schematic Design Report, with preliminary building layouts, and the
Linderman Transition FAQ have been added. The former is listed under
"Publications" and the latter is under "FAQ". It is anticipated that
Linderman Library will be closed to the public for about 18 months
beginning at the end of the spring semester 2005 final exams in early
May. Many plans have been made for making library materials available in
other ways. Please address any questions to Sue Cady at x84645 or
sac0@lehigh.edu <mailto:sac0@lehigh.edu>

*LEHIGH LAB NOTES*
Lehigh Lab Notes is published four times a year to provide articles that
will help educators integrate instructional technology tools into
teaching and can be found at http://www.lehigh.edu/~inllnote/
<http://www.lehigh.edu/%7Einllnote/>

*EIU VIEWSWIRE*
What is a country's economic or political situation? Is it worth the
risk of starting or investing in a business overseas? ViewsWire may have
the answers for the researcher. This recently added item covers over 200
plus countries and the six continents with quantitative and qualitative
information. This database includes the major subject areas of Business,
Economy, Finance, Politics, Regulations and Risk Wire (all major areas
have subcategories). The researcher can search by topic or country. Also
the search can be refined by using the subcategories for a given area or
country. It is produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit that
publishes The Economist magazine. The item is available on the
Library's Database Finder's page at http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/

*USING MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD FOR MASS EMAILING*
If you frequently send email to large lists of addresses taken from an
Excel spreadsheet, you might remember an easy technique in Netscape 4.x
that allowed you to do this without having to create an address book
list. In Netscape 4.x, you could copy a column of email addresses and
simply paste it into the email composition window. The recipient field
would be automatically populated so that you didn't need to create a
list manually. This feature was discontinued in later versions of
Netscape, but is back by popular demand in Mozilla Thunderbird, a
stand-alone email client. If you have a need for this feature, contact
your computing consultant to request that Mozilla Thunderbird be
installed on your computer.

*A NEW BLACKBOARD TOOL FOR COLLABORATIVE LEARNING*
Interested in online collaborative learning? We now have a new
Blackboard tool, "Teams LX", that makes it easy for groups of students
to create and jointly edit shared documents and websites within a
Blackboard course. This is the first tool that we have found that
actually allows students to add content to a course that is immediately
available to everyone enrolled in the course. Each edit to a page is
logged and is available for viewing for both the Instructor and team
members. Comments about the pages can be added by team members, the
Instructor, and even members of the course who are not on the team.
Teams LX provides not only an online collaborative environment for a
specific group of students, but also, optionally, provides an
environment for the entire class to reflect and comment on the process.

While the end result of a "Teams" project will be a final collaborative
web page (or site), the built-in evaluation tool also provides the
Instructor with information about individual contributions, as well as
views of all the prior versions of the site. This multi-dimensional
approach to assessment and evaluation of collaborative projects really
provides unique and invaluable insights into the collaborative process.

Teams LX is available now on our Blackboard system. Instructors can
create and assign collaborative projects for their students by simply
adding a "Teams Group Site" to any content area of a course. Go to the
edit content area page either through the Control Panel, or toggle there
from the course content page, by clicking on "EDIT VIEW" in the upper
right portion of the page. Choose "Create Teams Groups Site" from the
pull-down menu on the add content tool bar, then "GO". This will create
a blank "home" page for the team.

Consultant: http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/teams/it/support.shtml

*SERVICE PACK 2 FOR WINDOWS XP: POP-UP BLOCKERS*
The Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) upgrade adds a pop-up blocking
feature to Internet Explorer. This feature, which is enabled by default,
prevents some pop-up windows from displaying.

A pop-up window is a new window that is spawned for some reason - a
pop-up can be adware or spyware, but some pop-ups are desirable. Some
useful Lehigh services, such as IMP email, the campus portal email, and
some library databases use pop-ups. Pop-up blockers can prevent these
features from working.

To further confuse the issue, pop-up blockers are often part of add-on
toolbars, such as the Google and Yahoo toolbars. After updating to
service pack 2, some PCs may have multiple pop-up blockers enabled. This
can be confusing.

blocking feature, click on this link:
