LTS DIGEST NOW AVAILABLE ON THE CAMPUS PORTAL The LTS Digest is now available via the portal. The channel provides a link to the current Digest issue, as well as the archive. Select the tab where the channel will appear, and then choose Add Channel in the desired location. In the next screen, select the category Libraries and Computing. Select LTS Digest and click on Add Channel. Contact the Help Desk at 8-4357 if you have any questions. LTS FAIR MOVED TO THE FAIRCHILD MARTINDALE LIBRARY This year the LTS Fair will be held from August 21-23. New students attend the fair to pick up residential networking information and materials, pick up Microsoft software, learn about the university phone system, and learn about Lehigh LTS services. This year the Fair has been moved from Linderman Library to the Fairchild Martindale Library (EWFM), main floor, south end of the building. Faculty and staff who visit EWFM Library will notice the increased activity and noise on this floor, and photocopy access on the first floor may be limited during the busiest times (copying can be done on machines elsewhere in the building). Other services normally available in the main Fair area will be moved to alternate locations. If you have questions, inquire at the help desk or call 8-4357. HISTORICAL NEW YORK TIMES Researchers will be overjoyed with the new ProQuest Historical New York Times product the Lehigh Library has just purchased for use by our faculty and students. This is a fully digitized version of the complete backfile covering 1851 through December 31, 1999. Every issue has been digitized cover to cover and the full text is searchable using basic keyword or advanced search techniques. All content--news stories, editorials, photos, graphics and advertisements are included and can be printed to your attached printer. Searches can also be restricted to certain categories of articles, such as obituaries, wedding and birth notices, editorials, legal notices, losses by fire, reviews, real estate transfers and more! Readers can view the articles separately or in context of the original page. ProQuest president Joe Reynolds described the project as "an unprecedented conversion effort, comprising nearly three million pages and over 25 million articles" which will "allow researchers to find information about every aspect of American history from 1851 forward." The librarians are certain you won't miss using the printed New York Times Index or the microfilm. This product is a sensation. Go to the library's Database Finder to link to the Historical New York Times. For tips on printing use the "more info" link associated with this product on the Database Finder <http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/> page. FILTERING SPAM Spam, unsolicited electronic mail typically of a commercial nature, has become a major issue over the last few years. In order to help combat the spread of spam, Library and Technology Services has enabled spam tagging using SpamAssassin. By default, SpamAssassin uses a pre-configured set of rules to determine if your incoming mail contains spam. These preferences can be over-ridden to suit your own individual email filtering requirements. For instructions on personalizing spam mail filter settings, see Help Desk document http://www.lehigh.edu/helpdesk/faq/qa/spamassassin.html If you have any questions, contact either the Help Desk (8HELP) or your computing consultant. FALL SEMINAR SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20 The LTS fall seminar schedule will be distributed via campus mail and available on the Web on August 20. To view the Web seminar list, go to http://www.lehigh.edu/lts/sems/seminars.html For questions about the fall seminars, contact the Help Desk at 8-4357. TELECOM TIDBIT My phone number is incorrect in the new campus directory! What do I do? You might be surprised to learn that the campus directory is actually coordinated by Design Services, not Telecommunications. Personal listings in the Undergraduate, Graduate and Faculty/Staff sections are drawn from the registrar and payroll sections of LEWIS (Lehigh's Enterprise Wide Information System). To find out how to change your listing, please consult the Directory Corrections section on page 2 of the directory.
