GOVERNMENT INFO REMOVED SINCE SEPT. 11
The public interest organization OMB Watch
(http://www.ombwatch.org/info/2001/access.html) has developed an
inventory of changes in public access to government information since
the September 11 terrorist attacks. This list is updated on an ongoing
basis. As of 10/30/01, information has been removed or altered from the
Web sites including the US Geological Survey, NASA, Los Alamos National
Laboratory, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the states of
Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

FULL TEXT NEWSPAPER AVAILABILITY
Full text newspapers are available through Lehigh's electronic library
resources. While many newspapers are now making some or all of their
articles and features available through their web pages, in general they
permit access for a brief time window, perhaps the last five days to two
weeks. After that period it is possible to obtain electronic access to
their articles only for a fee, generally charged to a credit card.
Through two online news services purchased annually by Lehigh's library,
users can access many newspaper archives, some going back a decade or
more. Services like Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe and Dow Jones
Interactive are available and provide the full-text of hundreds of major
U.S., international, local and regional papers. Go to
http://www.lehigh.edu/~inref/guides/lexisdowjonespapers.html for step by
step instructions on finding newspapers and articles in these two
services.

WOMEN WRITERS ONLINE
Available from the library database page at
http://www.lehigh.edu/~inref/databases/index.html, Women Writers Online,
(http://www.wwp.brown.edu/texts/wwoentry.html) the textbase of the Women
Writers Project at Brown University, is a full text database of works by
women from the 14th through 19th century. From the earliest listed work,
Margaret Roper's A Devout Treatise Upon the Pater Noster (1526), up
through A Legacy for Young Ladies by Anna Laetitia Barbauld (1826), this
constantly growing full text database is a treasure trove of
lesser-known texts by women. It includes Renaissance Women Online, a
special subset of 100 texts from the Women Writers Online. The Women
Writers Project is a long-term research project devoted to early modern
women's writing and electronic text encoding. Its goal is to bring texts
by pre-Victorian women writers out of the archive and make them
accessible to a wide audience of teachers, students, scholars, and the
general reader. The project supports research on women's writing, text
encoding, and the role of electronic texts in teaching and scholarship.
The fully searchable collection is culled from original texts at 26
major research collections, including the Huntington Library, Bodleian
Library, a variety of British libraries, and university libraries at
Cambridge, Harvard, and Brown. The rich collection is accessible using a
simple search box. There are many access points into the texts,
including author, date, publication location, publisher, text size, text
length, source library, and Wing or STC numbers. Recent additions to the
database include materials by Mary Love, Joan Whitrow, Anna Laetitia
Barbauld, Elizabeth Chandler, Ann Plato, and others.

PDF FORMAT CONVERSION TIPS
Does your unit or department put PDF forms on the Web for users to
complete and submit? Make their job (and YOUR job) easier by creating
PDF forms with online fill-in-the-blank boxes. Forms can then be
completed online and either printed or submitted by email. It is
possible to create new forms or modify existing ones. Visit
http://www.Lehigh.EDU/~inhelp/faq/qa/pdfform.html for more information.

BANNER ACCOUNTS - WHY AM I SO CONFUSED?
Databases, instances, forms, user classes, reporting roles, Citrix, Web
for products what are they? Many employees are feeling frustrated,
flustered or overwhelmed by the Banner lingo that's being bantered
about. In an effort to clarify all this, visit
http://www.Lehigh.EDU/security/BannerAccounts.htm for a brief overview
of Banner and its terminology.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS
Curious about Outlook Express? Although Information Resources doesn't
officially support it, the Help Desk has developed documentation for our
users who have 'expressed' a preference. Visit
http://www.lehigh.edu/helpdesk/oesetup/oesetup.html for more
information.

CAMPUS AND PUBLIC EVENTS: GET THE WORD OUT!
Is your department or division sponsoring a workshop, lecture series, or
other event? Alert the IR Help Desk so that our staff can direct lost
attendees and participants who have forgotten or misplaced their
information. If you call the Help Desk with the location, date, and time
of your event, the staff can better direct attendees to the right place
at the right time. Because the Help Desk is open in the evenings and on
weekends, when many events occur, questions often come to the Help Desk
about locally held events. To report an event, just call the Help Desk
at 8-4357.
