STUDENT PHONE NUMBERS CHANGING Student residence phone numbers will be moved to the 974 exchange (prefix) this summer. For the last 15 years the entire University community has been served from a block of numbers within the 758 exchange, but the assignable numbers remaining within 758 are close to running out. Switching students to the 974 exchange will allow Lehigh to continue providing new telephone numbers within the 610 area code as the University grows. Faculty and staff numbers will remain the same. For more detail, please see http://www.lehigh.edu/phones/974.html SETTING VOICE MAIL FOR EXTENDED ABSENCE This item pertains only to faculty and staff. Take advantage of Lehigh University technology to ensure communications when you are absent for a few days, a few weeks, or all summer. Put an extended absence greeting on your telephone. From Voice Mailbox main menu, choose 4 for personal options, 3 for greetings, 2 for extended absence greeting. You will be prompted to record your message. SOFTWARE FOR FULL-TIME STUDENTS As part of the enhanced technology environment on campus funded by the technology fee, full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled at Lehigh University next fall will be able to install Microsoft Office on their personal computers. We alert you to this information so that you can take this into account when making consumer decisions over the summer about acquiring software for your PC. MS-WORD TIP Word maintains a number of different properties related to documents. Users can insert the values of these properties into a document by using different fields. For example, if you would like to have the pathname for a document inserted into the document follow the directions below. 1. Position the insertion point where you want to insert the value. 2. Choose Field from the Insert pull-down menu. Word displays the Field dialog box. 3. In the list of Categories, choose Document Information. 4. In the list of Field Names, choose FileName. 5. Click the Options button, under Field Specific Switches select \p and click the Add to Field button, it will display FILENAME \p this will add the path to the filename. 6. Click on OK to close the Field Options dialog box. 7. Click on OK. Word will insert the file pathname into your document. AN ENDNOTE STITCH IN TIME... Information Resources (IR) previously announced that EndNote version 4.0.1 is available for use on campus. Interest in the software is growing rapidly. EndNote enables users to organize citations; create bibliographies; insert citations into papers; record notes about citations; and import references from library databases. A recommendation: IR has found that importing into EndNote already existing bibliographies and citations (composed in a word processor) takes work and time which can be averted by starting to use EndNote as early as possible. Users beginning a complex document will find it more convenient to start with EndNote rather than attempting to convert later. For more information about EndNote, please see the constantly evolving EndNote FAQ at: http://www.lehigh.edu/~inref/guides/EndNote.html BOUND PERIODICALS IN FAIRCHILD MARTINDALE LIBRARY BRIEFLY INACCESSIBLE Sections of bound periodicals in the Fairchild Martindale Library 2nd floor north wing will be inaccessible for short periods of time while they are being moved to the (south) Mart Wing at the beginning of summer school. They will remain there, and will be accessible to users, until the compact shelving installation is complete. They will then be moved back. Signs around the libraries will inform users of their location and the progress of this project. Contact Gail Kriebel at 83028 if you have questions. FAIRCHILD-MARTINDALE OPEN CONTINUOUSLY DURING EXAMS Beginning on May 10th, the Fairchild Library will be open 24 hours per day. New hours for summer school will take effect beginning Monday, May 21st.
