Try the Leisure Reading Collection at Linderman Library! This eclectic selection of best sellers and books covering a wide range of interests may be just the thing to relax and refresh your frazzled mind. Have you heard about an interesting book lately? Why wait for the paperback to come out? Look for the title in the online catalog or come in and browse the collection located in the main lobby area of the Linderman Library. There are comfy chairs to relax in. You will find the latest titles by Amy Tan, James Hynes and Zadie Smith, and the latest dream escape book by Frances Mayes called "In Tuscany". If you have the urge to cook up some comfort food, check out a great cookbook from this collection. There are popular books on the Internet, the business world, philosophy, history, and much more. As a rotating collection new titles are ordered and older items are returned to the book vendor at least four times a year. UPGRADES TO ACADEMIC SOFTWARE PACKAGES New versions of popular software packages are now available for users of Workstations and PCs. For Workstation users, ABAQUS version 6.1 will soon be available. For PC users, new versions of Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash are now available, and the latest version of Scientific Workplace will be added soon. For details, see http://www.lehigh.edu/~ludoc/user_services/software/Announce.html ASA: WHERE THE PAST AND THE FUTURE MEET In the mid-1990's, progressive professional societies began to publish their journals on the Web, a great boon to scholars. Other publishers, with much fanfare, climbed on the bandwagon, so that it is now common to find that a current article is Web-accessible. With much less fanfare, but of much more import, is the latest development: full Web coverage of the entire history of major journals through JSTOR. PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Science) is now available, linked directly from ASA, from volume 1, 1915. The journal Science is electronically accessible back to the very first volume of the first series, published in 1880. These stupendous achievements, though, are dwarfed by another: the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society began publishing in 1665, and it is just a click away in ASA. You can read the hot news (for the 1780's) of Priestley's experiments with phlogiston from the screen in your office or residence. NEW LEHIGH CD AVAILABLE An updated version of the Lehigh Personal CD is available now at the University Bookstore. The new CD is silver in color and labeled Lehigh Personal CD volume 6.5 Spring 2001. The CD contains updated versions of Netscape Communicator (v 4.75), the Novell Client software (v 3.3) and Command AntiVirus software (v 4.59).
