INTERNET2 DAY MARCH 16TH, 2001 This spring Lehigh will experience Internet2 Day! Interested faculty, staff and students are invited to attend this full day conference featuring distinguished academic and network professionals from such organizations as the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Southern Universities Research Association. Attendees will also see demonstrations of remote instrumentation and videoconferencing applications in which Lehigh faculty are currently involved. Internet2 Day will be held Friday, March 16, 2001 from 8:30am to 4:30pm in Neville Hall. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Lunch will be provided by NetCarrier. Fastnet is also a sponsor of the event. For more information and the latest agenda, visit Lehigh's Internet2 web site at http://www.lehigh.edu/i2/ Internet2 is a consortium led by over 180 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Applications for Internet2 range from the humanities to the sciences. Research that requires interactive collaboration and instruction, real-time access to remote scientific instruments, shared virtual reality, or multi-media services can benefit from Internet2. NEED TO BRUSH UP ON POWERPOINT? SCANNING? REGISTER FOR IR SEMINARS There are still many IR Seminars available during the semester, especially in early March. Take a look at the list at http://www.lehigh.edu/ir/irhelp/schedule.html and sign up now. There is NO CHARGE for these seminars. IR does charge $10 for "no shows" because many users were being turned away when there were empty seats. Take advantage of this excellent free training close at hand. PHONE TIPS Did you know your campus phone is capable of three-way calling, with any combination of on- and off-campus calls? It's easy to do - just follow the steps below. 1. Dial the first party. 2. After the first party answers, press your transfer (XFER) button. You'll hear a dial tone, and the first party will be put on hold. 3. Dial the second party. 4. After the second party answers, press the transfer (XFER) button again. All parties will be connected. For more information about telephone features (as well as dialing guides, voice mail, telephone rates, and more), please visit our Phone Services web page at http://www.lehigh.edu/phones/phones.html UPDATE YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE REGULARLY! Running anti-virus software is the first defense against computer viruses, but it s only as good as the last time you updated the software and definition files for the newest viruses. You receive these updates automatically when you run Command AntiVirus on-campus, but if you installed it on a home PC, it s your responsibility to perform the updates. Check for updates to both the software and definition files at https://www.lehigh.edu/security/fp/index.html and apply them whenever your software has become outdated. To check the version of your software and the date of the definition files, open Command Anti-virus and click Help, then click Command AntiVirus for Windows. If the version is lower than 4.61, return to the above link and follow the instructions for downloading the latest program files. The download process may take up to 30 minutes, but it should only be necessary to update program files a few times a year. If the dates of the signature files (sign.def and macro.def) are older than the date shown for the link to the DEFFILES.EXE file on the above page, then follow the instructions for applying the definition files to the software. This download takes only a few minutes. You can expect new definition files to be available once or twice a month, so check for updates frequently! If you have any questions, contact either the Help Desk (x8HELP) or your computing consultant for assistance.
