LINDERMAN LIBRARY SERVICE DESKS The renovation of various service desks in Linderman Library is now almost complete. In the lobby area the renovated circulation desk will now provide a single point of contact for all services--circulation, wireless laptop loan, reference and Help Desk functions. Additional lighting at the Linderman Service Desk will be installed soon. The large reference desk formerly located in the Reading Room has been re-purposed as a public service desk in the Bayer Galleria in a new arrangement that is more welcoming to users. Special Collections will also now soon offer a convenient, dedicated computer for users. WIRELESS LAPTOPS AT FAIRCHILD & LINDERMAN Students, faculty and staff are now able to sign out laptops with wireless adapters from the Media Center in Fairchild Martindale Library and the Service Desk in Linderman Library. The software on these laptops has been updated to accommodate wireless connectivity. With these wireless laptops individual users can connect to both the Internet and the campus LAN from any of the wireless locations on campus. Current wireless access points are in Linderman Reading Room and stacks, EWFM 400 and 500 level, Media Center, Rauch Business Center main floor lounge, Packard Laboratory third floor lounge and Maginnes Hall lobby. Please check exact limits of the coverage in these buildings at http://www.lehigh.edu/wireless. Individuals who already have their own laptops and want to use them at the wireless locations on campus can purchase a wireless LAN card. The Lehigh University Bookstore is currently able to special order the IR recommended wireless LAN adapter. Information about installation instructions and drivers, etc. is also available on the wireless web page. ELECTRONIC ACCESS TO NATIONAL JOURNAL Big changes in Washington D.C. over the next few weeks! Now you can stay apprised of all the new players and policies with two recent library online subscriptions. The National Journal at http://nationaljournal.com/pubs/nj/index.htm and the Almanac of American Politics at http://nationaljournal.com/members/almanac are new additions to the library's ever-growing electronic subscription collection for 2001. National Journal is a leading weekly covering U.S. politics, government and public policy. The online subscription includes fully searchable archives back to 1977. The Almanac of American Politics provides information on Congress with political, demographic and social profiles of congressional districts and background data on members of congress and information on congressional committees. In addition it is a useful, quick source of information on how national interest groups rate congressional members and their key votes on issues. IR ALERTS!
