First, I cannot express how much I enjoy this activity... the combination of ham radio with hiking the AT! When one thinks about it... a brilliant idea! Unfortunately, the AT award program is not very well known. To the best of my knowledge this program was only mentioned once in QST... and that was under the QRP section. I agree with those who say that we must get the word out in order to increase activity... or it will just fade away. For the life of me, I still do not understand why contacts made during a contest don't count! I argue that this would increase the AT activity. CURRENTLY, I THINK I COULD WORK 5BDXCC IN LESS TIME THAT IT WOULD TAKE TO GET THE AT AWARD!!!!! More advertising and allowing contacts during contests would hopefully increase activity thus increase the number of AT awards. Perhaps we could form an award committee that could check applications and issue awards. Another committee could take responsibility for submitting write-ups to various publications. This should take some of the pressure off Ron. What is the incentive for us to drive more than two hours to Georgia, rent a room for the night, leave the motel at 6:30 in the morning, hike for two hours, make contacts, and then realize that the majority of stations I worked that day were stations I had worked in the past? If we just wanted some hiking, we could stay local. 73/72, Dean, W9KX
