Ken et al, some of these would not qualify. Having hiked past the Doyle
River cabin just this fall I can tell you I don't want to hike down the
mountain to the cabin and then back up to activate the trail. A better
choice there would be to stay at the Loft Mountain campground. The AT
circles the campground. I did go looking for the trail from the campground
and in at least the direction I headed off into the woods even that was not
close enough to qualify. I would not mind seeing the rules changed so that
all the campgrounds along Skyline Drive itself would automatically
qualify. There likely would be others near the trail that could also fit
in under the same set of rules.

My own opinion is that the award is dead unless someone finds a way to
create more activity. As someone said a six hour round trip for a dozen
QSOs is just not worth the effort. For me I'd have to add to that any
operating time.

Ron is dead set against allowing contest QSOs but I would sure like contest
QSOs from the trail or with someone on the trail to count. That in itself
could generate a lot more activity.
