Also there is a program DISPPUB that is downloadable from IBM VSE site (you'll have to look around a bit for it). As the name implies it displays some pub information.. The assembler source is there you can download it and modify it to report anyway you like.

This is basic stuff.

UCB is a term originally used by IBM CE's when they used to configure older processors by ADDing UCB addresses. Since then IOCP gens were added eliminating the work CE's used to do placing such responsibility in the hands of the customer.

Several years ago I was told by a IBM CE that IBM was planning to place even more setup work into the hands of the customer, but I've not seen nor heard anything more on this.

As Martin stated a UCB, Device Address, PUB and cuu all have the same meaing.

Commands to view such device addresses (PUB entries) in z/VSE are:

STATUS cuu (Interpretation of output is believed to be in Hints And Tips manual)
VOLUME
VOLUME cuu

You can also display the CHPID by:

SIR CHPID
SIR CHPID=chpid (Interpretation of output is believed to be in Hints And Tips manual)

The IUI also has dialogs to view DASD VTOC's by PUB (i.e. cuu) address (i.e. Resource Definition>
Display VTOC.)
I may show my own ignorance to latest improvements...

but isn't a UCB a control block in z/OS that represents basicly what a
PUB does in VSE?
