Frank ...

I will take this under advisement. Unfortunately, the WinFolk control the
LAN and I suspect it may be difficult to get a Linux box installed unless I
have a real good justification. I may just play around with the SCO/Unix
Flex/ES system and see if I can produce a benchmark. Thanks.

I would disagree...when I was exploring the performance problems with
VTape Server, I found the problem to be in Windows/XP and or the Java
Engine (as implemented on XP). Taking the same setup to a Linux box,
improved the performance. So, the problem (especially in my case was
NOT the mainframe).

FWIW ... a VTAPE file being created from my FlexES system to a Win200X
Server took 3 hours. If I wrote it to Faketape then FTPed from the
SCO/Unix
to Win200X system, the FTP took about 10 minutes. Both systems are on
the
1Gb Ethernet backbone. The z9 OSA QDIO is good bit faster but not
nearly as
fast as the FTP. My conclusion is that most of the overhead lies on the
mainframe side of the equation.

Hello Pete,

	I am using VTAPE on a VSE 261 and z/VSE 4.1.2 system.
I only use them selectively but I have not noticed any overall
performance problems.
