Martin (and all):

We are looking at developing a new application, so we have an
opportunity to change course at this point. However, they already have
IP/Server to support an older application.

The new application will be inquiry and update screens to a set
of VSAM files (or, possibly, to a DB/2 database). I have some experience
with IP/Server, so I know how to put the applications together using
that. Should I take the time to look into utilizing the native CICS
facilities? Are they "easier" or "more difficult" to use (compared to
IP/Server)? Do they offer any advantages?

I'd rather the client come to some rational decision WITHOUT the
need to spend a week on determining the best approach, so I am
approaching the VSE list since I am certain the expertise is already
here.

	Thanks, in advance.

David Wakser

David,

this is a long story- Would you mind to explain a little to what extent
they are using the IP/server?

Are they into bridging 3270 applications or are they looking into new
applications exploring the web interface?

I would go the CICS way- it is free and if you invest a week or so you
can see where you can go and what you can reach- then make an educated
choise on which product to use (if at all).

But in this case (with a product already in place) it depends on how
deep into it they are.
