HMC says online. VM says the CHPID is physically available. The SET RDEV
did not fix it either.

Looking on the HMC is the chpid online to the IFL LPAR or connectible?

We are installing VM for the first time on our IFL. We are to the backup
step but the tape drive is offline. I tried "vary on path 71 to b10" and
get a path not operational. A "query path b10" comes back:
Device B10 status OFFLINE
Chpids to device... 71
Physically available +
Online -

I set the CHPID offline in VSE and rebooted the controller, tried vary
on but that did not seem to help. I can share Escon attached tape
between LPARS, correct? What do I need to do to get VM to bring this
path online?

Thanks in advance
