This is on a z/VSE 3.1.0 system:
When I do an online copy, such as:
COPY ALL (which is a physical copy of one volume to another)
I get an error concerning the targets volumes VTOC. This is none. It is a
fresh volume from the IBM 8100.
To get around this, I have to INIT the target volume and put a VTOC on it.
Then, the COPY ALL works fine. And it does copy the source volume VOLID
and the source volumes VTOC. That is all and good.
But is there a reason why, for a physical copy, I need the target volume to
have a VTOC on it?
It is not this way when doing a standalone restore.
All I'm looking for is whether this is an error in FCOPY, or that I don't
understand how things are working. The thought if initializing hundreds of
volumes without reason, is just gonna delay some things.
I do find it interesting that when doing a physical copy of one disk to
another, FCOPY will try to use flashcopy for that process.
Thanks
