We actually have the rebuild of the hardware in a possible "shell" site documented. Teams are organized with specific tasks. The "shell" site has a double move built in - from hot site to shell then to new home. But not the actual mechanics. Which, as Dave suggests, is pretty much a reverse. Our desktop drill involved a building power problem and our data center was intact. The power problem would have the building down for 3 to 5 weeks. The actual disaster I went through in the 80s was a phone problem. We lost all phones at corporate and the T1 between our data centers. Our DR plan was to flip the data centers and then we just flipped them back after the T1 came up. Took about 3 or 3 1/2 weeks. There's a write-up in a 1988 Computerworld on what we did (of course the top guys gook all the credit). I don't have the luxury of 2 physical locations here. Replication would add another dimension too. Question 1: Do any of you have written procedures for going home again after a Disaster? Question 2: Has anyone actually practiced this - at least the part where you pick up your stuff from the hot site? We're in the midst of updating the organization's Business Continuity Plan again. We do little updates but this is the annual major update after our latest desktop drill. We have a semi-informal "just run the dr plan in reverse" plan which I think needs formal documentation. Thanks........... -------------------------------------------- Andy Engels IS Team Leader - Technical Services Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Oak Brook, IL 630-368-5346
