I thought the Application and Data Base Design book would be an interesting book or even the Guide for new Users.

Is there no book online that explains DL/I for a new user?

this will get you to the IBM Web site for DL/I manuals.  If you want to download them you will need to use load the 
BOOK Manager from the CD/DVD's.  Only a few are in PDF format.

DL/I DOS/VS V1R8 Resource Definition and Utilities is the manual you want.

Regarding my problem they are going to do a RELOAD/UNLOAD. 

Can you suggest some books or manuals that explain the workings of DL/I? It seems that there are few IBM manuals that go into that. 

I see a few books on Amazon:

Ims (Dl/I Data Base Organization and Performance) by George U. Hubbard 
IMS Programming Techniques: A Guide to Uning DL/I by Dan, and Joseph F. Leben Kapp
Ims/Vs Dl/I Programming With Cobol Examples (CCD Online Systems Data Processing Series) by David Lee 

Can I assume IMS = DL/I?

Anyone ever read any of these or can suggest something better?

Of course our main DBA guy left just a few weeks ago.
