I was kind of curious if anyone knew what kind of system handled all
this. I seemed to remember reading where it was being redesigned to use
a 'more modern platform'.

Isn't the computer that handles the automated flight plan stuff a
Flex-ES
system?
I guess nobody wanted to admit "it's a bad dongle" ;-)

Hmmmmmm...

According to the news:

Some flights were more than two hours behind schedule. Airports around
the
South also reported delays and cancel source of the computer software
malfunction was a "packet switch" that "failed due to a database
mismatch."
