Kinda defeats the purpose of a DNS?  (it's already in the DNS and should
resolve.)

I tried adding it anyway (even cycled named), still get "no data
returned".

Frank.

The Linux REXECD does a reverse lookup on the IP address making the
connection. Add the VSE IP address and host name to the /etc/hosts file.
This way the lookup will resolve and get you past this problem. The
reverse
lookup is a security check.
