Hi Jim,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I trying to implement this without making any changes to JCL.
All I really have to do is indicate to the Dynam/T catalog is that the file is a virtual tape and dynam takes care of the rest automatically. Anyway keeping the TAPESRVR job up all the time seems to be the way to go right now.

How about simply placing a // PWR PRELEASE RDR,TAPESRVR statement in the beginning of each job. Then, if the wrong one gets released, it will automatically release the right one!
