        Yep, that is what I ended up doing -- but it doesn't save the 
rigmarole.  IMHO, STARTBR should always leave the file pointer positioned 
according to the supplied key (equivalent to the assembler ACB POINT 
function) and have either the subsequent READPREV or READNEXT operate 
correctly according to the file pointer.
