I think the best solution would be an upsi switch or parm that would allow the tape server to remain up instead of starting it and stopping it all the time, especially if you use VTAPES regularly.

just my two cents,

Hi Louie,

Have you checked with Dynam support to see if they could add the JNM= to their code? Or maybe add code to pick up the SYSID of the request for VTAPE and add that to their R RDR,TAPESRVR,SYSID=x command.

Steve

Hi Bob and Kevin,

I am on zVSE 4.2 but I am using Dynamt which generates the VTAPE statement under the covers, but it is good to know about the JNM parameter.

I though about scanning for the R RDR stmt, but I just haven't done it yet, does anyone have any idea what phase it might be in.

And if your not on 4.2 and have a library scan program find the phase that has the current name in it and ZAP it to what you want.

	If you're on zVSE 4.2 there is a parameter on the VTAPE command to influence the name of the tape server

	// VTAPE START,CUU=780,LOC=VSAM,FILE='BACKUP1',SCRATCH,JNM=TAPESRVA
