Have you looked at BIM-EDIT as a replacement for LIBRA?

Please respond to

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll try to summarize here.
Chris,
LIBRA is a LIBR management tool much like ISPF in z/OS. It runs as a VTAM
application which provides remote connections. It’s a 3270 based utility
that allows edit/browse of any LIBR member, job submission, partition
LIBDEF mapping, dynamic VTOC displays, and a few other functions. A nice
tool, but with our limited use of VSE, maybe not worth the BOATLOAD of $$$.
I’m investigating VSE Connector & VSE Navigator utilities now. They may
provide the functionality we need.
Tony,
Yes, the initial proposed cost was based on the whole z10 box. I have a
request in to them to see if there’s any pricing based on running in a
“capped” environment.
Martin,
See the description of LIBRA above. As for the multiple console support
(provided currently by Logout), does native z/VSE provide that type of
support? I’ve seen some mention of that capability but where can I find
more information?
Kevin,
I’ll look into the IECN capability. Is multiple console support provided
only through IECN or is there something else when you say “native support”?

Native VSE have multiple console support in a fashion via the IECN
transaction on CICS. I'm not familiar with LOGOUT but as long as you're
not using specific "hooks" it may provide, I think the native support works
pretty well. LIBRA seems not to be even marketed any more; this may be a
clue as to your "need" for it.

Sorry if this is a double post. I’m not sure if made it the first time or
not.
We're moving our VSE environment to a new hosting site. We've been
told by Macro4 (now Unicom) it will cost a BOATLOAD of money to re-
license their LIBRA (LIBR management tool) and LOGOUT (multiple
console support) products to run on the z-10 box there. I've been
looking at the VSE Connector client/server offerings from IBM that
support these kinds of functions. Does anyone have any comments or
experience with VSE Connector? Would it be anywhere functionally
equivalent to the Macro4 products?
Thanks for any advice.
