Jim,

If you want to leave current generations on tape, then just change TYPE=DISK
to TYPE=TAPE and leave everything else alone.

New generations will be written to tape, and old generations will be
accessed on disk.

Interesting approach.

So I can still refer to previous dasd generations in the catalog by using
the generation dataset reference number? I have access to the VTOC
containing the G#nn appended to the filename.

Jim,

First, change the catalog definition from TYPE=DISK to TYPE=TAPE.

Second use DYNCOPY to copy the oldest generation. The new generation will
be placed on tape.

Repeat the preceding step for each generation remaining on disk until all
generations have been copied to tape.

Subject: Question about DYNAM's Catalog

I have some catalogued dasd GDG datasets and I'd like to move them to tape
with the end result being an updated catalog with the catalog entry for the
tape dataset pointing to the new location on tape.

Is this possible using DYNAM? If so, what are the mechanics?

Does the answer change if the dasd catalogued datasets are NOT GDG's?

I am not a VSE person by trade so please excuse my lack of knowledge in this
area.

Thanks in advance.
