Franz Josef,

to me it sounds like a bottleneck in the iosystem. Either CHANQ or 
BUFSIZE (or both) are too low... system runs nice until the limit is 
reached.

During IPL the actual numbers used (usualy higher than defined) are 
displayed.

watch them going up with the SIR command and increase appropriate.
