Edward, The RO and RI ports are only needed to connect multiple 8228s or other hub together. Do not connect any other device to these ports. It does not matter which port the 3174 is connected to. With newer hubs/switches, we have had to re-enable the interface on our OSA, when the cable got unplugged. I don't remember if we ever had to do that with the 3174, when we had one.
