I also hate being blamed for this. I also know lots of fat people who don't have dm, and I know fairly thin people with dm. Some believe that dm might cause or exacerbate obesity, not the other way around. It might be that because we are insulin resistant, we don't get the nutrients, which makes us hungry, so we eat more, then gain weight which makes us more insulin resistant. It's a cruel cycle. Researchers have demonstrated that those with a pear shape and especially large bellies tend to be diabetic whereas those who are overweight but have a more equal distribution of body fat aren't. Since you mentioned your tummy, thought I'd add that little piece to the puzzle.
