That would be kind of hard to do, Carole, to take 50,000 units of D in 200 units. To do that, i'd have to literally take 250 pills, in one sitting. Well, i would not have to worry about eating, huh? Am down to 122 pounds, so, that would be good, if i could lose another 23 pounds. I always wanted to be able to say "i weigh 99 pounds, soaking wet". LOL
I'm just kidding, Carole, because at 5 foot, 7 inches, i probably would look like a bag of bones. But seriously, i would like 120 pounds...even.
My X-Care Bear's daughter wears a size 0, that is what i would like to wear, but unfortunately, i don't think i'll ever get below my size 5 and 6.
You know what's funny? When i was 175 pounds, everyone saw me and made fun of me, now that i lost all that weight, no one sees me, but my doctor and my friend Walter (and he doesn't care how much i weigh, one way, or the other).
My long time girlfriend had that lap band surgery, and after 2 years, she was only able to go down to 165. Good thing i didn't get that surgery.
OK, my friend, i think i'm going to call it a night. Very tired. So, have a good, restful night.
Hugs, Marion

Sorry, the smoke, air is causing problems! Personally, I always try to use what I have on hand rather than fill another rx. Would make me so mad, not to mention feeling dumb, if I filled it, and then looked finding the same thing in 200 mg tabs. Hope you don't end up with breathing problems.
Abt the cost, that is ridiculous. Saw Louise's post.

How funny, Carole, i just dropped a line to the list, about the vitamin D. As soon as i hit send, you and Louise's name both came up.
Yes, the fires are too close for comfort. I can really smell the smoke, even through my closed door. Had to run the A/C for quite some time, because it's been 108, here in the valley.
BTW, Ibuprofen (aka Motrin), the 800 mg., is always prescription, you can't get that strength over the counter. I used to take those.
Have a good night, my friend, keep safe and cool. Hugs, Marion

Marion, I am always looking for ways to do the same thing a different way. One time when I was in the ER, the md wanted me to take 800 mg 3x daily of ibuprofen. He even gave me an rx for it. I took 4, 200 mg generic tabs to accomplish the same thing. That was my thought abt you. As he believes you need it badly, that is one to get that much Vit D in you relatively quickly. Sorry, friend the ok hasn't come thru.
Are you suffering with the smoke, haze, etc?? Are you close in any way to the fires? Just saw tonite's national news & pics of it. Sad, sad.. Now CA might have to contend with mud slides, if there is rain. We had smoke and haze from the forest fire, a contained burn west of us maybe 10-20 miles. The moon last nite was smoky gold, not white.

I don't know Carole. My doc said ONE pill a day, for 4 weeks. However, it doesn't look like i will even get started on it, because i haven't heard anything from the pharmacy, whether, or not my TAR has been approved.
Have a great weekend and keep cool. Yesterday, it was 108 here. YUCK

How big are those 50,000 units of "D" Louise? Did you feel any difference after you took them for a while? Mine still have not been approved yet.. Perhaps they never will be. If i don't hear from the pharmacy by Monday, i'll call them and find out what's taking the TAR (Treatment Authorization Request) approval so long.

Yes, Louise, it is a misnomer, "D" is not a vitamin at all, it is in fact a powerful STEROID HORMONE.
You take 5000 units a week, i literally have to take 10 times that much, 50,000 units per week. Perhaps, with a little luck, i will feel a difference, since i am so severely depleted in it. "D" is supposed to help out with diabetes, as well. If so, that would be nice, because i have finally managed to stay in the 300s (used to be ALWAYS 600 and way up, even once as high as 1400 plus. Of course then, i was hospitalized for 2 months and almost died. Would love to see what NORMAL (80-120) feels like.
As soon as i am finished with my eyes, and hopefully teeth, i will be going in for my feet, with the knowledge of several toe amputations (hopefully not both of my fore-feet).
Well, let's see when i finally get my "D", get re-tested and get my nerve conduction test. Gonna be busy for quite a while, just for that lousy diabetes. What a hateful disease, don't you agree? It messed up my whole life and i'm sure no one here on our list, or in this entire world, came away unscathed, because of diabetes.
OK, enough belly aching. Have a good night, my friend. Hugs, Marion

That is interesting, have never heard Vit.D called a Hormone before. Well the Vit D I buy is 5000 units and is OTC and I take it about 4 time a week. I don't notice a change in how I feel but do know my vit d level in blood is now normal. Louise

Correct me, if i'm wrong, Louise, but the way i understand it, vitamin D is not a vitamin and can not be replaced by any foods, hence not by supplements either. Yes, i think you can take high doses of it and let your blood levels go up on it, but not in the long run. I believe the way this hormone works, is by getting sun. Well, i for one do not like to sit in the sun, for any length of time, because i burn so easily and the burn never turns into a tan. So, if supplements don't even make you feel any better, i guess i'll pass.
BTW, for just 4 of these pills, the pharmacy has to get a Treatment Authorization Request, from Medi/Medi and that takes about 4-6 weeks, so what's the use, right?
Like any deficiency, i believe these are all poor (wo)man's ailments.
If those supplements do you any good, down the line, please let me know, because if they do turn out beneficial, especially for our diabetes, i definitely would take some, then.
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Louise. Have a good night and a great rest of the weekend. Hugs, Marion

I was on High vit d and it worked for the blood test, can't say I felt better, now I get hi over the counter D at the Walgreens and it has kept my blood levels up, I think I was told that it was part of the thing to prevent bone losss and also something in diabetes, we live in side in air conditioning more so we are missing getting the vit d from sunshine like when we were kids. Actually, Carole, i was born with Rickets. And yes, severe vitamin D deficiency can cause Rickets.
You know, in hindsight, i believe the deficiency, is causing me to lose all my teeth. Teeth, after all are bones too.
No, thank YOU, for writing and always caring and all of your well wishes.

Hi Carole, nice hearing from you again. Sorry for the late reply, but i had a doctor's appointment, this afternoon. My new Care Bear, Walter, took me, then we went grocery shopping, went to his house, in Hollywood and watched Free Willy 3 on his 56" wide screen TV. Was like a theater.
And then guess what i done, the first time in my life, with my new eyes, i drove myself home, from Hollywood, something i said i would never do, even with with my new eyes. Hurray, i made it and on the freeway no less. Was freaking out, but did make it home in one piece, no worse for the wear.
BTW, my doctor told me that i am extremely deficient on vitamin D and wrote me a script for 50,000 (yes FIFTY THOUSAND) units for 4 pills, to take 1 pill a week. Well, the pharmacy has to sent for a tar (Treatment Authorization Request), before i can have it, but isn't 50,000 units an awful lot? What does severe D deficiency do to you? What can taking such a huge amount do to you.
Could you, or someone here, that knows about this, explain the pros and cons to me. My doc said there's been a lot about it on the news lately, but i've been a little too busy, as of late, to watch the news. Please explain.
Thank you so much and have a good night. Hugs, Marion
P.S. My doc think the numbness could be a nerve entrapment, coming from my neck, or even my brain. He will do a nerve conduction test, in 3 weeks.
After all that, maybe finally i can go get my feet and right shoulder done and then i will be in the nursing home for 4 months. The feet and shoulder had to suffer for 4 years now; it's time they get their turn.
The teeth were denied. No pulling, no dentures, not even a cleaning, or gum treatment.

Good for you. Am sso glad the worst is over. The fact that you can read is wonderful.
Abt your arm David had something happen a long, long time ago. His fingers went absolutely numb! He couldn't move them, except by physically moving them. His brain told his fingers to move, but nothing happened. His md told him to see a neurologist. A freaky thing, but could have been the beginnings of carpal tunnel. He told him to take high amts of B50s and B6. Since then he takes those all the time. So far no more occurrences. Did some online reading.
Hope the rest of the summer is good! And, hoping your eye heals just like it is supposed to.

The larger fonts help tremendously, Carole. Thank you for your concern for me. Fortunately, i don't need the ice any longer, but it was a great idea.
Both eyes seem to be healing nicely (i'm still having a little trouble with the right one, though), not pain, just vision (a white streak across the side).
It will be until the last part of this year, or early part next year, before i can get glasses, because i still have to get that piece of cataract lasered out of the left eye, in three months.
However, my eye doctor, not the surgeon, loaned me a pair of glasses, with which i can see the computer and read with (as long as i hold reading material, at an arm's length), literally.
A couple of nights ago, i had something really scary happen; i thought i had a stroke. My right hand went totally numb, finger by finger. I am glad i called my doctor first, before i called the paramedics. My doc said it sounds like a compressed nerve, not a stroke. He said, with a stroke the whole arm goes numb at once, not piece by piece.
Stupid me, i had a full blown stroke, in 1972, on my left side, but i thought that this might be one of those TIAs (mini strokes), it scared me, non-the-less.
I hope you are doing well and will have a great, relaxing weekend. Thank you for caring and for writing. Take care, my friend. Hugs, Marion

Marion, I have a suggestion with the eye pain--keep ice on it. Would suggest that you call your md, just to make sure. No one ever told me abt keeping my eye iced. Glad to know that you are healing. Does it help or hurt for me to use a large number font?

My right eye is killing me. Went to both eye docs today. Right eye seems to be fine, according to them. The incision site is very swollen though. Doctor Dudow gave me a pair of reader/computer glasses, to tie me over until i get my permanent glasses. They work great. They look like a little pair of granny glasses, you know, half way down, so the top is for looking around with your real eyes. Kind of cool, i think.
This is going to be just a short note though, because like i said, my right eye is in a lot of pain, in the light and when i move it around. Hopefully, tomorrow, or the next day it will feel better.
Hugs, Marion
