Mailing Lists
Introduction
Lehigh University is the home of several
mailing lists of
interest to the Internet community. In addition to the primary purpose of a
mailing list, which is redistributing mail "posted" to the list address to the
subscribers of the list, these lists have many other features. For example,
you can subscribe to a list, request that you be sent digests instead of
individual posts, obtain archives and other list related files, search the
archives, and request that your subscription be postponed while you are on
vacation, all without human intervention. This is all made possible thanks to
software called a mailing list processor.
Supporting large mailing lists with hundreds, sometimes thousands, of
subscribers can tax the resources of even a large machine. We use a
mail transport agent which easily handles the huge
volume of mail these lists generate and does so efficiently.

from CREN for a fee, unless you're a CREN
member. An earlier version (6.0c) is still available free-of-charge from
here.
The Mail Transport Agent
The Mail Transport Agent we use is called
ZMailer and was originally written by
Rayan S. Zachariassen and is currently being developed by
